Just in time for Spooky Season!
Can’t believe it’s been nearly a year since Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror was published. I’m still incredibly honored that my short story “A Bird Sings by the Etching Tree” was included in this book, edited by Jordan Peele and John Joseph Adams. Get your copy here. Out There Screaming is currently only $1.99 in ebook formats for a limited time.
This past weekend, I watched two Black women-led horror movies — Halle Berry’s Never Let Go and Brandy’s The Front Room. And I’m so looking forward to Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s vampire flick Sinners. I’m thrilled by the representation and the opportunity for the Black experience to be examined through a dark lens.
Someone said 2025 will be the year for Black horror. With the direction the country’s headed in, I hope they didn’t mean literally! All jokes aside, horror gives us a unique language to voice what is often unspeakable. I’m looking forward to the continued discussion.
