“Out There Screaming” on the Final Ballot for the Stoker Awards!

So geeked that Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror made the final ballot for the Stoker Awards.

Each year, the Horror Writers Association presents the Bram Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement, named in honor of Bram Stoker, author of the seminal horror work, Dracula

My short story “A Bird Sings by the Etching Tree” is included in Out There Screaming, edited by Jordan Peele and John Joseph Adams. I am so grateful that my work appears alongside so many gifted writers in this amazing collection.

I’ve never written about “traditional” vampires. My story “Here Come the Janes,” featured in my short story collection Escape from Beckyville examines hair vampires and the ways in which Black women’s hair is stigmatized and devalued, while simultaneously being empowering and appropriated. Maybe I’ll start playing around with the theme of vampirism. Time to inject some new blood into my art! #forgivemycornypun
