I am so hyped that the film my writing partner and I co-wrote, A Mother’s Intuition, will have its world premiere at the American Black Film Festival!
I am so grateful to Dr. Holly Carter, founder of RelevĂ© Entertainment, for believing in our vision and bringing the A Mother’s Intuition screenplay to the awesome folks at TV One. Fun fact: Dr. Holly and Robi Reed co-hosted a monthly bible study for believers aspiring to make it in the industry. Even though I attended faithfully, I never spoke to Dr. Holly during those meetings. I wanted to pitch her my script The Brown Rose, that was a finalist for the Sundance Writers Lab, but never felt it was the right time.
I had to leave LA in 2016 for personal reasons (which I’ll share in an upcoming post) and travel 3,000 miles away to my hometown. It seemed like a cosmos away from my dreams. I actually gave up writing for a long time and immersed myself in painting.
But my gift made room for me. Five years later, it was the right time.
“Timing is important,” as Dr. Holly reminded me when I finally introduced myself to her on the Atlanta set during production of A Mother’s Intuition last November. I am super grateful to director Cas Sigers-Beedles for taking our vision and running with it and the immensely talented cast and crew of our movie who put in so many loooong hours to create a movie we can all be proud of.
I’ll see you in Miami Beach in June!
