“Out There Screaming” is out Now!

I’m so excited to announce that Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror, edited by Jordan Peele and John Joseph Adams, is now available wherever books are sold!

I walked into my local Barnes & Noble and it was such a euphoric feeling to see Out There Screaming on the bookshelves. This is a dream come true. I am thrilled to be included in this roster of esteemed writers: Erin E. Adams, Violet Allen, Lesley Nneka Arimah, Maurice Broaddus, Chesya Burke, P. Djèlí Clark, Ezra Claytan Daniels, Tananarive Due, Nalo Hopkinson, N. K. Jemisin, Justin C. Key, L. D. Lewis, Nnedi Okorafor, Tochi Onyebuchi, Rebecca Roanhorse, Rion Amilcar Scott, Terence Taylor, and Cadwell Turnbull.

Jordan Peele was interviewed on NPR about the new anthology. “When we are allowed to process our feelings and our fears in creative ways, good things happen,” he says. “You can’t ignore your Blackness when you’re writing a horror story.”

My short story “A Bird Sings by the Etching Tree,” examines violence against women and how Black and white women can often be tenuous allies in the fight against white supremacy. It’s hard to fight against a system set up to benefit you. Sisterhood is often sacrified.

Anywho, I’m off to get some writing done. My next project is a collection of horror/speculative fiction/sci-fi short stories. I hope you’ll stop into your local or online bookstore and get your copy of Out There Screaming.
